Day 6
Saturday
Its the usual preparation for the breakfast feast, from 05:30 onward the kitchen is ablaze with egg variations on toast, fruit pieces, a cereal isle's postcard dream and not forgetting last night's left overs of sugared doughnuts and other treats. It is a breakfast buffet connoisseur's orgasm. All I'm craving for is high fat peanut butter with banana slices and maybe an avo on toast, or scrambled eggs, any type, with tomato sauce. Yes please. Instead I grunt my miserable self around the kitchen toward my "supplement area," legs a mess, body aching, triceps a crying, I shove L'Glutamine in my mouth and wash it down with water. I try to get down 2 litres of the hydration elixir (water) not nearly enough to get my body through the day, if I'm prepared to make it through my run at 10:00 with the 360 running crew. Feeling sorry for myself I grate half a green apple into 50gm of low fat banana yoghurt and sprinkle 3 raw almonds over it for some edge. Wow. I polish that in 2minutes. On my way back to bed I guzzle off a 200ml pure whey protein shake and fall asleep with a tummy filled with liquid.

Saturday morning brings a stellar of a day, it brings an even dryer Rushy, with eyelids scrapping onto the eyeballs and a dry nose bleed, I put on my brave face along with half the bottle of suncreen, my trainers and make my way to the Sea Point promenade to meet the 360 team. We meet at the lighthouse and one other client pitches up, Phil Black the front man from Chasing Friday is ready and energized, not your typical rockstar behaviour for a Saturday morning but there I am too, not your typical fasting behaviour either, Mark Whelan from 360 Specialized Training reassures me it will only be a little run. The boys go easy on me and we take the next 40min in our stride as we enjoy the 5km. Ipod battery dies, sunscreen in my eyes and the beautiful CT Winter sun beating down on us, I know we all feel like champions. Two hours later this champion is girl down lying sideways. Life is grande.
Dinner was hardly what my body needed, but healthy fish prepared in various healthy and delicious ways the chefs at Nobu know how. Where's the veg? Where's the rice?? Why have I not been in detest about all the fried food? No daltjies anywhere! I'm craving carbs and fat and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, but practicing restraint is something that I need to get a grip on. So I refuse on the house saki, the tempura prawn "specilaity" as well as the chocolate fondant for dessert. Proud of my extreme discipline, I leave the restaurant hungry. Is this what Madonna feels like when she leaves Nobu? Does she refuse the dessert menu too? God damn. This aint no lifestyle.

Its been proven that rest days are critical to sports performance for a variety of reasons. Some are physiological and some are psychological. Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair, rebuild and strengthen. For recreational athletes, building in rest days can help maintain a better balance between home, work and fitness goals.

Its been proven that rest days are critical to sports performance for a variety of reasons. Some are physiological and some are psychological. Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair, rebuild and strengthen. For recreational athletes, building in rest days can help maintain a better balance between home, work and fitness goals.
Recovery time allows these stores to be replenished and allows tissue repair to occur. Without sufficient time to repair and replenish, the body will continue to breakdown from intensive exercise. Symptoms of overtraining often occur from a lack of recovery time. Signs of overtraining include a feeling of general malaise, staleness, depression, decreased sports performance and increased risk of injury, among others.
Madonna claims "I mix it up -Pilates, yoga. I do it six days a week. Actually, Sunday is horse riding. There is no such thing as a day off." Well we all don't have the motivation and athletic drive of the 50 year old performer, but cross-training, like a walk, or light run, maybe some yoga, a social sport or in my case, a light lil run with a friend from Bantry Bay to Camps Bay beach, feet in the sand and back, seems like a pretty active recovery to me.

Much later that day I came down pretty flippin' hard and spent the rest of the day in a foetal position. Starving from the nights "clean" dinner before, I'm dying for dinner time.
At the table my hands are shaking like mad I can't even cut my steak prepared wt a delicious mushroom sauce. Instead I grab my favourite, Sterie Stumpie, manage to rip the foil off and enjoy what my body has been craving. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and feed it what it wants YUMMMM....
Madonna could never enjoy a Sterie Stumpie because her diet bans processed food, dairy and just about all kinds of spices (again no daltjies), which Anderson, Madonna's trainer says are "bloating and upset your digestive system, which causes you to store fat", as well as any oil and sauce intake. Alcohol and caffeine are out of the question. The daily water intake, on the other hand, should be between 1.5 to 3 liters. Also, Anderson recommends only one serving of whole-grain carbs a day, preferably in the morning :(
